In honor of a national initiative to raise awareness and promote dialogue about Celiac Disease, local entrepreneurs kick-off the first ever, Keep Austin Gluten Free Dialogue and Vendor Fair during National Celiac Awareness Month in May.

On May 29, local doctors, food vendors, pharmacies and trade associations, along with children’s vendor “Games2U”, will be present to have fun while addressing a serious, yet little known illness called Celiac Disease which affects one in 133 people; nearly three million Americans nationwide. The holiday season is upon Central Texas, bringing to mind joyous times and elaborate meals shared with family and friends. It is a time to be thankful for what we have and most importantly, a time to celebrate. One common tradition throughout the world is parents and children baking together in the kitchen. There is nothing better than tasting a hot and fresh cookie minutes after they come from the oven or after it has been decorated with sugar icing. However, many people are gluten intolerant, which means they are allergic to wheat products or have a more serious condition called celiac disease.
